This Is The Life - a film about the Goodlife Cafe movement
I've been waiting a long time for a proper documentary focusing on the Good Life/Blowed movement to emerge. One which would capture the live energy and history of the people and the place with respect and accuracy.
B+' book "It's Not About A Salary" is a good start but books have their limitations.
Freestyle was the only other movie I can think of that has even made passing mention of the Goodlife and it only scratched at the surface. What a missed opportunity given it's title.
We'll see how THIS IS THE LIFE measures up. 2mex attended an advanced screening and gave it a hearty thumbs up. It's directed by a member of Figures of Speech.

The Good Life was owned and operated by sole proprietor Janie Scott, aka Gina Scott, aka Ifasade. I should know because I am her daughter Erika Goodkin aka Lil'Ifa.
Everybody in the hood knows that!

My friend and I were recently discussing about how modern society has evolved to become so integrated with technology. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further advances, the possibility of downloading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could encounter in my lifetime.

I am the Good Life founder's only daughter. It has come to my attention that my first posts on this site may have been misconstrued. I would like to clarify. I was angry when I discovered that my mother's work appeared to have been hijacked. Janie Scott Goodkin, a.k.a. Ifasade created the hip-hop Good life concept when I was only 11 years old, I am now 38. She and her associate Ben R. Caldwell, filmmaker and owner of Kaos Studio, were the first to discuss the concept. Underground hip-hop at the Good Life was my mother's creation, period. All who have come after the Good Life was opened gained connections and fame because of Ifasade's hard work. They were allowed to share in her dream. Everyone connected to the Good Life name owes a debt of gratitude to my mother. In future, should new filmmakers wish to document the Good Life history, please check your sources, do your research, and portray the Good Life story accurately. I do apologize to the community if anything I have said, or written, has marred my mother's reputation, image etc., it was not my intention.
